Google Ads Diagnosis
Impressions are up, people are clicking, but Google Ads reports zero — or commercially unsustainable — conversions.
Short Answer
Clicks without conversions is almost always one of four problem classes: a measurement problem, a traffic quality problem, a post-click conversion problem, or a business process problem. This is usually described as a targeting problem. Sometimes it is. But diagnosing which failure mode you actually have should happen before you increase budgets or rebuild campaigns.
The diagnosis order matters: verify measurement first. Every other conclusion depends on whether the conversion numbers can be trusted.
Symptoms
Definitions
Conversions are happening, but tracking is broken.
You're paying for people unlikely to become customers.
The traffic is relevant, but the landing page, offer or conversion process is failing.
Leads are generated, but they aren't becoming customers.

Question 1
If no: If no meaningful actions occurred at all, keep investigating traffic quality and the post-click experience.
If yes: If real customer actions occurred but Google Ads shows zero, you have a measurement problem — do not assume the dashboard is correct.
Question 2
If no: Measurement and reality agree — the leak is before the conversion, not in how it's counted. Start there →
If yes: Fix tracking before drawing any other conclusion about the account.
Question 3
If no: It's a traffic quality problem — no landing page change will rescue irrelevant clicks.
If yes: Traffic is relevant — move to the post-click experience: message match, friction and offer.
Likely Causes
Measurement
Where to check: Test every conversion action yourself — form, call, WhatsApp, booking — and verify it appears in GTM, GA4, Google Ads and your CRM.
Fix direction: Don't assume a tag works because it exists.
Traffic Quality
Where to check: Open the Search Terms report. Ask: would a reasonable person typing this search be likely to purchase my service?
Fix direction: If the answer is repeatedly no, it's a traffic quality problem.
Traffic Quality
Where to check: Check targeted vs excluded locations, presence vs interest settings, and location-specific conversion rates — not just clicks.
Traffic Quality
A vague ad generates more traffic but lower-quality visitors.
Where to check: Compare what the ad promises with what the visitor actually finds.
Fix direction: Pre-qualifying traffic can reduce CTR while improving conversion rate.
Post-Click
Where to check: The page should continue the conversation the search and ad started — matching headline, service, location, offer, proof and CTA.
Post-Click
Where to check: Slow speed, long forms, no click-to-call or WhatsApp option, weak proof and confusing navigation all block relevant traffic from converting.
Post-Click
Where to check: If customers can easily compare alternatives, your offer must give them a reason to choose you — Google Ads can't win that comparison for you.
Business Process
Where to check: Five clicks and zero conversions proves nothing. 2,000 relevant clicks with working tracking and zero leads is strong evidence of a real problem.
Before You Touch Anything
Are all primary conversion actions working?
Are conversions duplicated?
Are low-value actions included as primary conversions?
What are the highest-spend search terms?
Are irrelevant searches excluded?
Are locations configured correctly?
Do advertisements match customer intent?
Does the landing page match the advertisement?
Does the landing page work correctly on mobile?
Can customers call, message or submit forms easily?
Is the offer competitive?
Is there enough data to evaluate performance?
Is automated bidding receiving reliable conversion data?
Are leads qualified?
Are leads followed up effectively?
If you can't answer these confidently, the account needs diagnosis before more budget is committed.
Measurement
Real inquiries exist; CRM leads don't match Google Ads; calls happen but aren't recorded; conversions vanished after a site change.
Search terms are irrelevant; low-intent searches consume budget; leads request unrelated services or sit outside your area.
Search terms are relevant, tracking works, visitors engage — but conversion rate stays weak and mobile users abandon the page.
Leads are generated with reasonable quality, but calls go unanswered, responses are slow, and follow-up is inconsistent.
